Once strongly opposed to online gambling, Louisiana legalized sports betting in June 2021. Retail sports betting began in October of the same year while the state launched online gambling in last January. Internet Vikings decided to launch here, convinced that Louisiana holds many opportunities. That may be correct.
Although there are no year-over-year figures to compare it to since it only started in January, figures from last month indicate that the online industry will play a important role in the success of the gaming industry in Louisiana.
Last Monday, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board released July 2022 numbers for the state’s gaming industry and it revealed that of the $118.3 million in sportsbooks taken last month, the seven sportsbooks State online handled the lion’s share of the betting action with $103.3 million in total wagers taken. Additionally, sports betting revenue in July was $20.6 million, nearly double the $10.65 million earned the previous month.
