Kwara Community Launches Police Headquarters Project

The foundation laying ceremony for the multi-million naira Okelele Divisional Police Headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State was held yesterday.

The project designed to enhance security in the area long served by the Alagbado Police Station is an initiative of the Ibagun Progressive Union (IPU).

It was during the IPU’s solicitation of funds from the indigenous people of the region that a member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Cook-Olododo, who is an indigenous person from the region, announced that he would include building the facility in its 2022 constituency projects.

The IPU in collaboration with Alangua Ibagun, Mal Sakariyau Ilufemiloye provided part of the Ondoko-Okelele market land designed since 1995 by the Ilorin East Local Government Administration for the construction of the headquarters of the division of the police.

Another Ibagun native and current Special Strategy Adviser to the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, who was a Works Supervisory Adviser in the council in 1995, was the main instigator of the market citation of ‘Ondoko-Okelele.

The IPU leadership and the entire community of Okelele/Ibagun were delighted that the new police station was a good complement to the Ondoko market.

Speaking at the ceremony, the donor, the Honorable Cook-Olododo, described the inauguration of the police office project as a milestone in the history of political representation in the Ibagun district and in the emirate of Ilorin.

He recalled his other interventions in the Ibagun district, including two road projects which he said would soon be commissioned.

In addition, IPU President Alh Kuranga Omomeji Morogun gave background information on the initiative. He thanked Cook-Olododo for his love for his community which resulted in his taking over the construction of the police headquarters in Ondoko-Okelele.
