A local farmers market in Lehighton continues to thrive.
The Lehighton Winter Farmers Market runs from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of the Lehighton Recreation Center, 243 S. Eighth St.
It is hosted by the Lehighton Downtown Partnership, part of the Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corporation.
Those who attend often have a unique experience, as everything is either home-grown, homemade or handmade, according to Bambi Elsasser, director of Lehighton Main Street.
“We are right in the middle of the winter market right now, supporting our small businesses and our local farmers and vendors,” Elsasser said. “It’s been fantastic.”
Elsasser urged visitors to check out their many vendors: produce, baked goods, dairy, meat, eggs, poultry, gifts, honey, dog treats, crafts and more.
“With all the costs going up at grocery stores, sometimes it’s more affordable to get farm-fresh produce,” she said. “It’s so important to all of our local farmers; without our farmers, there is no food.
Elsasser said the event resumed in October and since then has had a stellar run.
“Farmers and vendors said they saw many new faces,” she said.
“They are very happy with it.”
The event is open from 10 a.m. to noon on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month until May 14.
Elsasser said the summer market will begin May 21 and will feature a large craft fair in Lehighton Lower Park.
