New Summer Market in Forest Grove – 100 Mile House Free Press

Becky Robertson is looking to put Forest Grove back on the map with its own weekly market.

As a cashier at the Forest Grove General Store, Robertson has come to know her community well over the past 13 years. To attract more people to the community, she decided to start “knocking on doors” and starting Forest Grove’s first market.

“Working at the store, I meet a lot of people. I meet new people, old people and we’ve been locked down for two years, so now everyone has to go out and meet new people and old friends,” Robertson said. “We have a lot of artists and musicians here and nobody knows what everyone is doing, so I thought ‘hey, let’s try to organize a market together in the summer’.”

Robertson said she has about a dozen different local artisans, bakers, farmers and artisans lined up for the market, which is expected to be held in the parking lot of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 261. The first market will take place on Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will run every Saturday until September 3.

Vendors must pay a $15 rental fee and will be required to provide their own tables. The only requirement for vendors is that they live between Gateway and Mahood Lake.

All money raised at the market will be donated to a local non-profit organization chosen by vendors and market visitors.

“My goal is to try to do something for the community here,” Robertson said. “The response so far has been wonderful. A lot of people are telling me the idea is exactly what they were looking for. We need something here to draw people in, to get them exploring and seeing what we have to offer.

Robertson said she hopes visitors to the market will take the opportunity to experience nearby lakes, resorts and hiking trails.

Robertson, who loves wet felting and making copper jewelry, plans to sell some of her slippers, scarves, mittens, hats and jewelry at the market.
