Sea Hive Marketplace in Oceanside has doubled down on the enduring beauty and aesthetics of vintage products. The 13,000-square-foot venue at 1555 South Coast Highway — which celebrates its 5th anniversary this year — specializes in modern, vintage and handcrafted items, with around 100 vendors under one roof.
When it launched in 2017, owners Brandon Vega, Todd Stephenson (Estate Sale Warehouse) and Rob Murray (Sending Karen), hoped to do two things with the space: provide a vintage shopping experience for the community, and give artisans and vintage dealers a place to market their wares.
Jenifer Zoutendyk, the store manager, says Seahive Marketplace is “the antithesis of fast fashion. We take great pride in the fact that we do a lot of recycling and reuse of items. Vintage things tend to be higher quality and have more style or are more interesting.
The market‘s inventory is handpicked and includes everything from artwork, furniture, clothing, vinyl records, books, rugs, jewelry, and plants to personal care products. Zoutendyk says she looks for diversity and uniqueness when researching new items.
Although Sea Hive’s collection is large and varied, an entire room is devoted to fine jewelry, including Native American accessories, sterling silver, gold, diamonds, and gemstones. The same goes for the furniture which consists of one-of-a-kind mid-century and bohemian style pieces.
“We’re really proud to support local small business owners and help small artists,” Zoutendyk said. “(This place) has really filled a niche (in our community.”
Sea Hive Marketplace is open 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
