Marketplace for musical creation Splice has set up a strategic advisory board made up of artists, entrepreneurs and musical executives from various territories.
According to Splice, advisors to its new Global Music Council (GMC) “have been handpicked to offer diverse perspectives, and an artist’s perspective, on expanding access to music. Splicethe world’s music creation platform ”.
The launch of the advisory board follows the announcement in February of the platform’s $ 55 million Series D funding round, led by Glodman Sachs GS Growth.
The Global Music Council (GMC) will be chaired by Caron Veazey, founder and CEO of Something in Common and co-founder and vice-chair of the Black Music Action Coalition, launched in June 2020.
In this inaugural role, according to Splice, Veazey and the other board members “will help Splice identify trends and opportunities to support under-represented music creators around the world ”.
Splice says her new board will also give advice on the advancement of the platform’s “music education and collaboration products, and cultural trends” to shape Splice Sounds (Splicelibrary of over 2 million pre-authorized samples).
The other members of Splice’s Global Music Council are:
- Mr Eazi, Nigerian artist and founder of the EmPawa Africa artist incubator
- Imogen Heap, Grammy Award-winning musician and co-founder of Creative Passport
- Hussain ‘Spek’ Yoosuf, founder of PopArabia and the brand new Middle Eastern PRO ESMAA
- Mathew Daniel, China-based DJ and International Vice President of NetEase Cloud Music
- Ebonie Smith, chief engineer of Atlantic Studios and founder of Gender Amplified; and Sebastian Krys, 2-time Latin Grammy winner Producer of the Year and Founder of the President / CEO of Rebeleon Entertainment.
The board will report to Chief Music Officer, Maria Egan, who joined the company in 2020, alongside internal representation from CEO / Co-Founder Steve Martocci, CEO / Content Director Dan Zaccagnino and Board Member Matt Pincus.
