Top Winners, Losers and Trends of 3/7/22

This week, Wizards of the Coast made an announcement that rocked the market, causing multiple price spikes. Additionally, several new Kamigawa cards are gaining in popularity and price.

Welcome to The MTG Marketplace, a weekly MTG Rocks article where we cover each week’s biggest price increases and general market trends.

Weekly winners

Seasoned Pyromancer

Seasoned Pyromancer | Wizards of the Coast

By far the biggest winner this week was the seasoned pyromancer who jumped around $25.00 for $45.00.

On Monday, WOTC banned Dream Lair Lurrus in Modern. This ban has many financial implications since decks no longer have an incentive to only play cards with mana values less than or equal to two. This frees up deck building decisions to include cards like Seasoned Pyromancer now.

the wandering emperor

Earlier in the week, The Wandering Emperor jumped from $11.00 for $16.00. But since then, the card has only become more expensive. As of this writing, she’s about to $24.00!

The Wandering Emperor rose in price when players discovered its multi-format gameplay. Some people think she is even strong enough for the modern. If you want to know more about it, check out my article, Standout Kamigawa Planeswalker Rising in Play and Price!

Otherworldly Light Walk

here’s another one Kamigawa: The Neon Dynasty card whose price has skyrocketed this week. A few weeks ago, March of Otherworldly Light was less than $2.00. The price doubled earlier in the week and has since risen to around $7.00.

March of Otherworldly Light is, in my opinion, the best removal spell for neon dynasty. And players are starting to experiment with the map in multiple formats, including Modern.

Ranger-Captain of Eos

From $14.00 for $25.00Ranger-Captain of Eos is another card that has risen in value this week now that Dream Lair Lurrus left.

This card can be a guardian for some of the most played cards in modern like Esper Sentinel and Ragavan, Agile Thief. Players are also looking for new ways to play The shadow of death without Luru.

Mishra’s Bauble

Mishra Bauble | Wizards of the Coast

While the price of many cards has increased due to the ban on Dream Lair Lurrus, there is a card I expect to lose. Mishra ball in synergy with the Cat companion, because you could relaunch it for free each turn to draw an additional card.

Mishra’s bauble will always be played in modern as it is extremely good in combination with Dragon’s Rage Channeler and Emry, Loch Stalker. But because its most commonly used app is no longer legal in Modern, Mishra’s Bauble’s price is set to drop.
