BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WBRC) – UAB and Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank team up to provide useful resources to the community.
Residents of Birmingham will be able to get fresh, affordable produce and free diapers all in one place.
UAB’s Live HealthSmart Alabama Mobile Marketplace and Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank Partner to Provide Staple Foods, Frozen Foods, Fresh Food, Diapers and Feminine Hygiene Products to Those Who Have Them most needed. This event takes place on Wednesday October 27 at 11th Avenue Church of God In Christ in Kingston from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
Organizers said the partnership was obvious, making good health more accessible to communities with little or no access to grocery stores and removing transportation barriers for the neighborhood.
According to Bundles of Hope, there are over 14,500 children under the age of five in the Birmingham area, and 29% of the community lives below the poverty line. Organizers said this event is especially significant now with so many people grappling with the pandemic. They said basic necessities like toiletries and diapers are hard to come by in areas like Kingston and families shouldn’t have to choose one over the other.
“Often… you know… families are… faced with a choice between buying food for my family or buying diapers for my family?” Diapers are the fourth highest expense for families behind rent, utilities and food. So we know it’s a huge need in the community, and we don’t think families should have to choose… you know. So this partnership, they don’t have to. You can get your fresh produce and your diapers in one place, ”said Lindsay Gray, managing director of Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank.
Families do not need to show proof of income or necessity to participate in this event.
