Whirlpool announces community basket auction to benefit United Way



Whirlpool Corporation has announced a community basket auction to benefit United Way of Southwest Michigan. From December 1 to 10, it will be an opportunity for the community to make offers on decorative baskets for a good cause. United Way of Southwest Michigan provided us with the details:

“Giving Tuesday” is fast approaching: World Giving Day which encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity around the world. Also on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Donation Tuesday is November 30 this year. Whirlpool Corporation is giving Southwest Michigan the opportunity to participate in the spirit of Giving Tuesday, one day later, and benefit United Way AND go holiday shopping. Not for a single day, but 10!

Whirlpool Corporation is hosting an online community auction from December 1-10 on uwsm.org. The auction starts at 12:01 a.m. on December 1 and ends at 2 p.m. on December 10. On the website, bidders will find pictures of the baskets, lists of items in the baskets, and total values ​​of the baskets, as well as the dates and locations for picking up the baskets. Items have been donated by businesses and individuals in the community, and all proceeds from sales will go to the Whirlpool Corporation employee pledge campaign for the United Way.

The community basket auction is the brainchild of Shelitha McKee, customer relations manager at Whirlpool Corporation and long-time leader of the company’s employee engagement campaign for United Way. She has run an internal corporate basket raffle to benefit Centraide over the past few years, and because of its resounding success, the campaign committee decided to auction the basket concept across the country. community this year, in addition to the internal raffle.

“We’re excited to be able to offer baskets to the whole community in auction form because the baskets are so creative and fun and people love them,” McKee said. “We know this auction will boost our fundraising campaign for United Way and support the impactful work they do in our community.
